Please note: Citi PremierMiles American Express Card is no longer available to new applicants. For a competitive alternative, read our review of Citi Premiermiles Visa Card.

Citi PremierMiles American Express Card offers one option for consumers seeking travel perks, who are willing to pay an annual fee. This card is fairly standard in terms of miles-earning potential, and is very similar to Citi PremierMiles Visa Card. While it has a slightly higher annual cost of S$267.5, this is offset by an annual renewal bonus of 15,000 miles (equivalent to approximately S$150). What differentiates Citi PM Amex Card is its access to both Citi World Privileges and American Express Selects, which offer unique curated discounts. On the other hand, the card does not offer welcome gifts to new cardmembers. This is a bit of a disadvantage, as many travel cards, including Citi PMV Card, offer great sign-on deals with bonus miles.

What Makes Citi PM Amex Card Stand Out

Citi PremierMiles American Express Card is most relevant to consumers who are willing to pay for travel perks, and prefer flexibility in mile redemption. While Citi PM Amex Card isn't for everyone–cardholders must earn at least S$80,000 per year to qualify for approval–it does offer benefits like complimentary travel insurance and 2 free airport lounge visits per year. Consumers earn 1.3 miles per S$1 local spend and 2 miles per S$1 spent on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, KrisShop or on overseas transactions. Miles never expire and can be redeemed for cash rebates (1,400 miles convert to S$10 cashback) or with over 60 airlines and 8,000 hotel properties through the card's Frequent Flyer and Hotel Loyalty Programs. While most of these offers are very similar to Citi PMV Card, Citi PM Amex Card is unique in offering access to both Citi World Privileges and American Express Selects.

Despite these features, Citi PM Amex Card has an annual cost of S$267.5 which, like the salary requirement, limit accessibility. This fee might be a deterrent for those seeking a low maintenance card or who don't travel frequently enough to maximise miles earnings. This cost is offset by an annual renewal bonus of 15,000 miles (approximately S$150 value-to-consumer) with payment of the annual fee. Another balancing factor is access to deals with select merchants through Citi World Privileges and American Express Selects. Cardholders can regularly take advantage of 15% off select hotels, restaurants, and fashion retail around the world. Finally, cardholders have access to Citi PayAll, which allows them to earn rewards for paying their taxes, rent, condominium management fees, school fees and electricity bills (for a 1.5–2% service fee).

Overall, Citi PM Amex Card may be helpful to travellers seeking miles rewards and who are willing to pay an annual fee to access privileges. However, even with unique benefits like access to multiple discount programs, Citi PM Amex still does not provide as much value as its parallel, Citi PMV Card. Citi PMV Card offers a sign-on bonus of 21,000 miles after a S$7,500 spend and is more accessible in terms of having a lower salary requirement and lower annual fee (S$192.6, offset by 10,000 miles renewal bonus). Consumers, in general, might want to consider Citi PMV Card for a standard travel card with perks and privileges.

Citi Premier Miles American Express Card provides below average value-to-consumer after two years based on an average monthly spend of S$2,000, but offers travel privileges and discounts not captured within this metric

Citi PM Amex Card v. Citi PremierMiles Visa Card

Consider this if you are looking for a standard miles rewards credit card
  • Pros
    • Frequent traveler perks
    • Low fees
    • Flexible miles redemption
    • Cons
      • Lacks luxury perks
      • Not suitable for occasional travel

Citi PremierMiles Visa Card is a great alternative to Citi PM Amex Card for consumers who value travel perks but would prefer to pay a slightly lower annual fee. Citi PMV Card offers travel perks and rewards rates fairly similar to the somewhat pricier Citi PM Amex Card. Cardholders earn 1.2 miles for every S$1 in local spend, 2 miles for every S$1 spend overseas, and up to 10 miles per S$1 with select travel sites during promotions. Additional benefits include travel insurance and 2 complimentary visits to airport lounges per year.

While Citi PMV Card has an annual fee of S$192.6, waived only the 1st year, the cost is offset by an annual renewal gift of 10,000 miles (approximate value of S$100) with payment of the annual fee. New cardmembers also receive 21,000 bonus miles after paying the annual fee and spending S$7,500. Citi PMV Card's bonuses add enough value for the card to stand out from Citi PM Amex Card, despite similar base rewards rates. With its lower annual fee and lower salary requirement, Citi PMV Card may be a more affordable and accessible option for consumers seeking a standard travel card with perks and privileges.

Citi PM Amex Card v. Citi Prestige MasterCard

      Citi Prestige Card
      Citi Prestige Card
Consider this if you want special travel perks like free hotel nights and unlimited lounge access
      • Pros
        • Great luxury benefits
        • Ideal for higher budgets
        • Great golfing and travel perks
        • Cons
          • Very high annual fees
          • Unsuitable for moderate budgets

For high-earners who are less concerned with annual fees and more interested in luxury travel perks, Citi Prestige MasterCard may be an excellent option. With a mandatory qualifying salary of S$120,000 per year and a non-waivable annual fee of S$535, there certainly is a barrier to entry. However, the luxury benefits afforded to cardholders provide added value that some may consider worth the cost. Citi Prestige MasterCard goes above and beyond by offering unlimited complimentary access to airport lounges around the world, free nights at hotels and resorts, limousine transfers, golf privileges, complimentary travel insurance and more. Cardholders also earn 1.3 miles per S$1 local spend and 2 miles per S$1 overseas spend. Consumers even receive an annual bonus based on the tenure of their relationship with Citibank, and customers with Citigold status earn extra miles per purchase. For consumers willing to invest in a travel card that offers luxury benefits at a high fee, Citi Prestige MasterCard is a great option. However, consumers who are willing to accept fewer privileges in order to pay a lower annual fee, Citi PM Amex Card or Citi PMV Card might be a better fit.

Citi PM Amex Card v. HSBC Revolution Card

Consider this if you spend mostly on shopping, dining and entertainment
          • Pros
            • Great rewards on local dining and entertainment
            • Online shopping perks
            • No-fee card
            • Cons
              • Lacks rewards for frequent travellers who spend large amounts overseas
              • Not suitable for low budgets

HSBC Revolution Card is a great option for average spenders seeking affordable miles as a reward local dining, entertainment, and online purchases. HSBC Revolution Card rewards these purchases with 2 miles per S$1 spend. All other purchases receive only 0.4 miles per S$1 spend, so this card primarily benefits a social lifestyle. HSBC Revolution Card is especially affordable because its annual fee of S$160.5 is waived for 2 years, and then for every year after in which the cardholder spends at least S$12,500. This is accessible for most average spenders, making the card easy and low maintenance. HSBC Revolution Card does not offer travel perks, however, and is positioned as a points card. Travellers seeking travel benefits and privileges might want to opt for a card like Citi PM Amex Card which offers such perks, along with special discounts–though Citi PMV Card would also serve as an excellent option with welcome bonus miles.

Citi PM Amex Card v. American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Card

American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Credit Card
American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Credit Card
Consider this if you want an easy to use miles card and fly mostly on Singapore Airlines' various brands
              • Pros
                • Easy-to-use miles card
                • No conversions & transfer fees
                • Great rewards with Singapore Airlines
                • Cons
                  • Not easy to maximise miles
                  • Lacks airline/travel rewards aside from SIA

Of the two American Express options, American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Card offers a wide variety of bonus miles and promotions that make the card great for consumers seeking convenience and extra rewards. Amex KrisFlyer Card offers easy ways to both earn and redeem miles. The card has a base rate of 1.1 KrisFlyer miles per $1 spend and higher rewards rates like 2 KrisFlyer miles per S$1 spend on SingaporeAir online and on the mobile app, as well as at KrisShop (in-flight and online). What really elevates earnings are the welcome gifts and promotions. Cardholders receive 5,000 KrisFlyer miles with their first purchase after approval, and after a S$5,000 spend within the first 3 months receive up to 7,500 additional miles. After S$12,000 spend, cardholders earn another S$150 cashback for use on Singapore Airlines. Miles can be easily redeemed directly with Singapore Airlines without administrative fees.

While Amex KrisFlyer Card offers great miles-earning promotions and easily redeemable miles, it does lack flexibility. Consumers who fly outside of Singapore Airlines will not maximise benefits from their spend. Those seeking greater flexibility in earning and redeeming miles may want to consider a Citi PremierMiles Card such as Citi PM Amex Card, or for greater accessibility and value, Citi PMV Card.

Citi PM Amex Card v. DBS Altitude Card

Consider this if you are looking for a good miles credit card with an easily waived annual fee
                  • Pros
                    • Great for online travel bookings
                    • Cons
                      • Those willing to pay an annual fee for more bonus miles
                      • Affluent travellers who are willing to pay a high fee for luxury travel perks

Average spenders looking for a travel card with an easy-to-waive annual fee might consider DBS Altitude Card. This card offers rewards rates on par with market standards with 1.2 miles per S$1 local spend, 2 miles per S$1 overseas spend and 3 miles per S$1 spend online with select travel partners (singaporeair.com, agoda.com, expedia.com and more). Travel perks are also fairly standard, including travel insurance and 2 free airport lounge visits per year. However, DBS Altitude stands out for its annual fee of S$192.6, which is waived the 1st year and then every year after that the cardholder spends S$25,000. This amount is fairly accessible to the average spender. Consumers looking for an affordable travel card with perks, but an avoidable annual fee might be well-served by DBS Altitude Card. Those seeking expanded perks and discounts and who are willing to pay a fee for them may want to consider Citi PM Amex Card instead. Perhaps an even better alternative would be Citi PMV Card.
