Wise Traveller's Insurance: What You Need to Know

Wise Traveller Secure Insurance offers two great value plans for those looking for annual travel insurance coverage for any international destination. If you are a frequent traveller, you will benefit from its below average prices for annual plans, whether you are traveling to ASEAN, Asia or globally. Its two plans, the Secure and Premium, cost around 30-50% below average for annual plans. The majority of Wise Traveller's coverage focuses on medical coverage and inconvenience coverage for things such as travel delays, loss of documents and cash.

Wise Traveller's value for money is what makes it stand out the most. For example, The Secure plan's medical coverage of S$312,000 is higher than the industry median of S$300,000 and its trip cancellation coverage is above average. This is despite premiums being 45% cheaper compared to other annual plans. Wise also offers private hotel and car rental discounts, which can lead to even greater savings. The Premium plan is similarly high value, with above average coverage for trip cancellation and baggage loss/damage. Due to this, we recommend these plans to individuals and families who travel more than 4 times every year, whether for work or leisure. You will be getting comprehensive coverage that will cover you in the majority of cases while paying a great price. This makes it one of the best travel insurance plans you can get in Singapore.

Cost of cheapest travel insurance premiums in Singapore for annual global plans

The most notable negatives of Wise Traveller insurance is that it limits coverage to those under 70, so those travelling with seniors may not get full family coverage. Furthermore, the Premium plan, while competitively priced, falls just below average in terms of coverage. For instance, the Premium plan's medical coverage is 54% below average for top-tier plans. Because of this, it may not be suitable for those who are looking for plans with high medical coverage. Furthermore, Wise restricts certain benefits to only the Premium plan, making it potentially unsuitable for travellers who are looking for budget plans that cover adventurous activities, skiing, credit card loss and terrorism & kidnapping.

It's important to highlight that the Wise Traveller isn't an insurer—it's a membership organisation that maintains a relationship with Allianz Global Assistance. This means that when it is time to submit a claim, you will be submitting one with Allianz, not with Wise Traveller. However, there are some perks to being a member, including private discounts at over 150,000 hotels, member only promotions for car rentals, airport lounge access and data roaming options.

General Exclusions

Wise Traveller has a lengthy list of exclusions that are fairly standard for the most part. You will not be able to submit claims arising from pre-existing conditions, not wearing appropriate protective clothing, travelling against advice of a doctor, travelling for medical reasons or if your claim is related to the death or illness of anyone over 70 who is not listed under the insurance policy.

There is coverage for your sports equipment, with the exception of bicycles and you'll receive coverage for adventurous activities and snow sports such as skiing.
